Aboriginal Health

The Academy of Child and Adolescent Health acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia – the lands where our members live, work, learn and play have always been and always will be Aboriginal Land.

We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and celebrate the diversity of First Nations people and their cultures and connections to the lands and waters across our vast country. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We acknowledge all our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues who champion child and adolescent health, as we partner together to promote the health and wellbeing of all our children and young people.

The Academy of Child and Adolescent Health fully endorses the Uluru Statement of the Heart as the path forward for a better future for all Australians.

We hear the call for the establishment of a First Nation’s Voice enshrined in the Constitution and for a referendum to amend the Constitution accordingly.

We hear the call for a Makarrata Commission to supervise a process of agreement-making between governments and First Nations and truth-telling about our history.

We look forward to working with, and supporting our First Nations colleagues, as a matter of national priority, to develop and enact specific proposals in relation to Voice, Treaty and Truth.
