Thriving Kids

Thriving Kids presents a once in a generation opportunity to refocus on the needs of children with, or at risk of, developmental delays or disabilities and their families to ensure they receive the right support at the right time, in the right place and in the right way.

Our recommendations are guided by these key principles:

  1. Family centred: Parents are the primary and most powerful influence in their child’s life. 2.
  2. Equity: Parents must be supported by equitable health, early childhood education and social services sectors that are responsive to their child’s needs. This must be proportionate to the child and family’s needs.
  3. Integrated models of service delivery where various health, early childhood education and social care providers collaborate. This ensures seamless patient-centred care that responds to wholistic needs of the person eg health navigators, hubs.
  4. Mainstream uplift especially primary care and maternal/child health services: There is increased engagement of primary health care practitioners working in innovative ways with paediatrics, child health services and early childhood education/schools.
  5. Localised solutions that build on existing services and resources and responds to community needs.
