Overview

This short document outlines 8 principles to guide in the redevelopment of the children’s section of the Australian War Memorial. It emphasises the importance of children recognising and honouring the fallen while at the same time considering
solutions to avoid conflict.

It adheres to the view stated at its opening by Governor-General Gowrie that “It would not only be a record of the splendid achievements of those who fought and fell in the war, but it would be a reminder to future generations of the barbarity, of the
utter futility of modern war.”

The AWM has strayed from this vision. With the redevelopment program there is an opportunity to return to the original concept.
