The Academy of Child and Adolescent Health endorses this open letter from doctors working in Aboriginal Medical Services across Australia saying “Yes” to the Voice
ACAH seeks to raise the voice of all children and young people; hence our conference in Melbourne 19th to 21st Nov is titled: “A Voice for children”. This referendum is an opportunity for this generation of Australians to take the next step towards reconciliation. ACAH endorsed the Uluru Statement from the Heart and this referendum provides an opportunity to advance the sentiments so eloquently outlined in that Statement. Although it is easy to stoke fears, there are times when we are called on to stand side by side with our fellow Australians and work collaboratively for a better future. This is one of those times. Nothing will have universal support across an entire population, but it is important that we recognise the potential for this referendum to bring healing and reconciliation and that is why it is overwhelmingly supported by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations and the two hundred doctors working closely with them.
